Slade
Abused - almost giving up Hope Slade comes to the Sanctuary

I received an email from Betsy regarding a Doberman that needed help. He had been abused and was failing. I agreed to take him and drove to Georgia to pick him up. Donna had kindly gotten him out of the shelter and taken him to her home until I could make it up there. He was such a sad sight. Open sores - hairloss on one side and so skinny he would lean against you to stand. He also had a horrid Upper Respiratory Infection that when he would sneeze would really make a mess.
Two weeks later he was on the mend with his skin issues and URI - he was then found to be light heartworm positive and also had parasites. The parasites were easy and he is now on treatment for heartworms. Slade is a love of a dog. Confused a lot of the time - at first so timid he would not leave my side and was afraid of everything. Now a social dog in the yard and in the house. He has some dominate issues and also has gotten protective of me but is learning correct behavior. His confusion comes in that he has never been taught much and is unsure what is expected of him or what he will be punished for.
He is coming along well - and even though older will learn to be the dog he was always meant to be.
